[093012] Human Dimension in Planning — Vorlesung mit Übung
sc.agr. Anne Weber, rer. pol. Einhard Schmidt-Kallert, Sandra Huning- Score: 11.66 reduction and equity. The course consists of a series of lectures (Participation – Gender – Conflict Resolution strategies and Mediation) with related exercises taught by different lecturers. The first part of the course will revolve around current notions of development and the most important cross-cutting perspectives in development planning, i.e. planning with the people (not for the people), gender This course is intended to familiarise the students with salient features of the SPRING programme’s approach. Development planning and spatial planning are not conventional academic disciplines, they can rather be described as practical crafts. But they are rooted in a set of conceptual principles like inter-disciplinarity, development with and for the people and orientation towards poverty in development planning. In the second part of the course the focus will shift towards conflicts between individuals, groups of people or entire communities which often occur during development planning processes and exist in every society. Emphasis will be placed on the analysis of conflicts, on different conflict resolution strategies and on concrete procedures of mediating in planning conflicts.

Zhe Wang, Ahmed Ghalgaoui- Score: 6.68 Time domain terahertz spectroscopy consists of lectures in conjunction with laboratory courses giving the students the opportunity to directly apply the material from the lectures in the laboratory. In this context, fundamental physical properties of matter, such as the refractractive index, conductivity, or resistivity, are studied using terahertz spectroscopy. The lectures will begin with basic concepts a of light matter interaction, in particular, how such concepts are used to determine refractive indices of varying susbtances, like semiconductors, magnetic samples, or liquid water. In addition, the use of pump-probe spectrocopy to investigate conductivity and some other nonlinear processes in matter will be discussed. The lecture will take place every tuesday from 2 - 4 pm

[154501] Introduction to British Cultural Studies — Vorlesung
Dr. Cyprian Piskurek- Score: 6.03 The lecture offers an introductory overview of theoretical approaches and topics relevant for British cultural studies. While the meaning of 'culture' may seem to be quite evident at first glance, even the slightest probing underneath the surface reveals that it is not. As Raymond Williams, one of the most influential founding figures of British Cultural Studies, famously pointed out: "Culture is one of the two or three most complicated words in the English language" (Keywords, 1976). It is thus necessary to get a grip on some of the dominant but potentially competing conceptions of 'culture' – which in turn depends on an understanding of how its meanings have developed historically – before engaging with other concepts that contribute to its semantic scope: identity /difference, representation, gender, race/ethnicity, place/space, cultural memory and many others. The discussion of theory will be complemented by a brief overview of British history (from 1500) and an introduction to the British political system. Tutorials: The topics dealt with in the lecture are recapitulated and deepened in optional tutorials (see information below). Assignment: End-of-term written test

[093032] Transport and Infrastructure — Seminar
Bhuvanachithra Chidambaram, Stephan Treuke- Score: 5.98 Transport Transport planning is a crucial element of regional planning due to its significant impact on economic and social development. Experiences and theories demonstrate that effective transport projects can enhance travel efficiency, influence activity patterns, and improve health and wellbeing. Additionally, transport planning plays a key role in promoting social equity and gender balance when decisions are based on a thorough analysis of the situation. Despite these benefits, transport planning and provision in most developing countries face substantial challenges. This course will introduce methods and tools for analysis and planning, provide examples from various countries, and engage participants in exercises to identify strategies for transport interventions aimed at improving travel and activity patterns, health, wellbeing, and social equity. Infrastructure Infrastructure Planning consists of following aspects: Drinking water supply Wastewater treatment Waste-/Rubbish- disposal Electricity Telecommunication Similar to transport, infrastructures have a significant impact on economic and social development. Beyond that, water supply, waste water- and waste -disposal are certain pre-conditions for health and hygiene. Spatially inclusive and comprehensive strategies for the construction of Electricity and Telecommunication infrastructures are the new upcoming essentials for economic development. Current aspects and strategies like decentral/central will be introduced and discussed on the basis of presentations and seminar papers of the participants.

[172301] Innovation I: Concepts and Theories — Seminar
Christoph Kaletka- Score: 5.94 Environment and innovation are important keywords for looking at social development processes. In this seminar, basic concepts and theories of social science innovation research are presented and discussed. Central topics include the analysis of the connection between innovation and social change and its significance in the context of concrete social transformation processes (such as the energy transition, transport transition, formation of new consumption patterns, etc.). Concepts and empirical findings from social science innovation research as well as its history and development form the focus of the seminar. Special attention is paid to social theories that focus on the connection between innovation, social change and social transformation and analyse the interaction between technological and social aspects. At the same time, the seminar asks about the contribution of social science innovation research to reflecting on and overcoming societal challenges. Within the scope of the seminar, current and future-oriented topics and developments of social-scientific innovation research are taken up.
