Dr.-Ing. Uwe Schwiegelshohn, Sabine Winterhoff, M.Sc. Ganesh Nileshwar- Score: 6.76 Scheduling is generally understood as the mapping of jobs or tasks to machines or resources. In practice, these problems occur in various forms in the areas of industrial production, logistics, process management as well as in the generation of service schedules and timetables. In the context of this lecture we will first consider problems for the one machine model and analyze them by theoretical methods. Afterwards, we will use these results to address more complex problems with several machines. The third part of the lecture concerns different variants of production line problems. In the lecture we discuss deterministic and online algorithms. We distinguish so called easy and hard problems. The latter will although be addressed with heuristic approaches yielding performance guarantees

Dipl.-Ing. Thomas Hartmann, M.Sc. Peter Rico Davids- Score: 5.83 will present each other the results of their study. • Second, students learn how to systematically analyse land policies and its instruments. Students will learn how policy instruments impact scarcity of land, based on effectiveness, efficiency, legitimacy, and justice. This teaching goals will be taught with a series of input lectures and with the book “Planning, Law and Economics: the rules we make Land polices is an activity that targets the future use of land. Governments have specific land policy strategies available to deal with the scarcity and distribution of land in spatial planning. These instruments are used for communal and governmental measures dealing with the housing, densification and land thrift. As land policy is embedded in the local political context, strategies of land and housing) and compare with the German land policies and challenges. These teaching goals are taught in a way that students are enabled to articulate interdisciplinary research questions relevant to the domain and practice of spatial planning. [09202106] M 06 – Resilience Recovery in Flood risk governance — Projekt
M.Sc. Peter Rico Davids- Score: 5.36 Introduction of this M-project: Spatial planning plays a pivotal role in nowadays flood risk governance. The recent flood events of summer 2021 in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands are illustrating the need for more than just flood protection. Flood risk strategies are no longer limited to flood prevention, but also focus on protection, preparedness and recovery strategies. By combining the strategies from water management, spatial planning, urban development and social science expertise cities should become more resilient against flood risks. This integrated approach requires the involved of new actors, and also requires new roles for existing actors in flood risk governance, such as active participation of citizens. However, when it comes to the recovery process, the role of spatial planning to build back more resilient lacks behind. After a flood event municipalities and citizens tend to focus on rapid recovery to the pre-flood vulnerable situation. The question raises what the role of planning is towards a resilient recovery of flooded urban areas. This master project invites students to explore this role of spatial planning in flood risk governance processes when shaping resilient recovery recently flooded urban areas. Students will select a case study where they will identify actors and instruments that could contribute to a resilient reconstruction. Students will learn about the challenges and opportunities that spatial planning and flood risk governance face to reduce flood risks. Teaching Goals: Upon successful completion, students will have the knowledge and skills

[041243] Machine Learning Paradigms for Complex Data — Vorlesung
Erich Schubert, Emmanuel Müller, Daniel Gunter Wilmes- Score: 5.32 The lecture provides insights into advanced machine learning methods that form the basis for an emerging research area. Traditional methods have been considered for several years in the literature and are covered by basic machine learning lectures. However, due to the large and complex data used in today’s applications, some of these traditional methods are applicable only on relatively small and simple problem instances. Recently, research has addressed this challenge by proposing novel machine learning paradigms for large and high dimensional data. They aim at scalability with respect to size and dimensionality of data in todays and future applications. The lecture will derive novel challenges for machine learning out of recent application scenarios. The focus will be on advanced machine on the data. Outlier mining techniques in high dimensional data. Challenges and recent solutions in research and industrial projects. Overview on our future work in this research area. At the end of the lecture, the participants should be aware of – and able to explain – the necessity of advanced machine learning concepts. They should be able to assess and compare different approaches of data analysis

M.Sc. Buse Ayça Ataç-Studt, Karin Snel- Score: 4.13 and torrential rainfall imply adjustments of land use and thus interventions in private land ownership: Areas for flood retention must be implemented and to reduce the impact damage of such events measures on private property are necessary. Implementing measures for climate adaptation on private land is difficult and complex, and spatial planning has barely taken up the task (see also www.land4flood .eu). The aim of the project is to understand how spatial planning struggles to implement measures on private land and to explore how to alleviate climate adaptation on private land. The project will therefore get inspired from international experiences and links to the recent academic debate on the topic.
