Learning Analytics beschäftigt sich mit Theorie und Praxis, das Lehren und Lernen durch die Analyse von Lern- und Lernprozessdaten zu unterstützen und zu verbessern. Dabei ist es besonders wichtig, dass der Einsatz von Learning Analytics nicht durch die reine Existenz oder Verfügbarkeit von Daten Studierende einen Einblick darin, was unter Learning Analytics zu verstehen ist, welche Forschung in diesem Bereich stattfindet und was die verschiedenen Anwendungsbereiche für datenbasierte Bildungstechnologien sind. Für verschiedene Forschungsthemen aus dem Bereich werden Nutzung und Verarbeitung von Daten zur Verbesserung von Lernen und Lehre eingehender beleuchtet. So werden z.B. ethische und datenschutztechnische Aspekte von Learning Analytics betrachtet und in den Zusammenhang der DSGVO gestellt. Des Weiteren werden verschiedene Datenquellen für unterschiedliche Lern- und Lehrszenarien behandelt sowie verschiedene Methoden der Datenanalyse vorgestellt.
