Prof. Dr. Dominika Motak- Score: 10.75 The Study of Religion sees itself as a multi-paradigmatic field of studies. It draws on theories and approaches from many disciplines such as sociology, anthropology, and psychology. In this seminar, selected theories will be discussed. Older theories and approaches should not be considered outdated. Rather, the goal will be to mediate classical with contemporary theories. Therefore, we will start with classical approaches (e.g. Weber, Durkheim, Simmel, James, Malinowski), continue with later conceptualizations (e.g. Geertz), and conclude with more recent theories. The course will be in English and is expected to be digital. Prof. Dr. techn. Günther Meschke- Score: 9.67 for creating proper numerical models showing appropriate mesh shapes, boundary and initial conditions are introduced. Different constitutive models with their parameters and potential fields of application for different materials are presented in order to show how accurate results can be obtained. To control the reliability of numerical models, the basics of constitutive parameter calibration, model are introduced to address the effectiveness of the contributing constitutive parameters as well as constructional aspects within the sub-systems. To perform global sensitivity analyses, which usually requires a vast number of test runs, the meta modeling technique as a method for surrogate model generation is presented. All these methods are consequently applied in the context of a reference case study on a of the exercises nonlinear numerical analyses in tunneling will be performed by the participants in autonomous teamwork in the computer lab. Numerical Simulation in Geotechnics The course gives an overall insight to the numerical simulation of geotechnical and tunneling problems by using the finite element method including constructional details, staged excavation processes and support measures . This encompasses material modeling, discretization in space and time and the evaluation of numerical results. The terms and expressions for creating proper numerical models showing appropriate mesh shapes, boundary and initial conditions are introduced. [050706] Linguistic Theory from Saussure to the 21st Century — Übung
Dr. phil. Torsten Müller- Score: 6.03 Anglistik / Amerikastudien,M.Ed.-Studium,Fachwissenschaftliches Modul,Übungen How do linguists see language? What, in their view, is it and what aspects of it are worth studying? These questions may sound simple enough and almost trivial, and yet linguists have had widely diverging answers which led to widely diverging ideas of what to investigate. It may, for example, sound astonishing from a modern point of view that the study of language in its social context , an approach we find obvious today, represents a fairly recent development. Similarly, the systematic study of spoken language, as opposed to written standard language, was neglected for most of the 20th century. We will look at how linguistics as an academic discipline changed in the course of a century: Ferdinand de Saussure’s early 20th-century structuralism is often seen as the birth of modern linguistics. Noam Chomsky, on the other hand, is known as the most famous linguist of all, but to many it may not be entirely clear why (and why there are numerous fellow linguists who object to his view of language). William Labov has been characterised as the ‘godfather’ of sociolinguistics while George Lakoff and Adele Goldberg represent an approach to language study which attempts to integrate

Instead, visual representations have long been understudied in the field. This situation has changed in the last decades. In face of the ubiquity and prominence of visual tools in scientific reasoning (ranging from illustrations, to diagrams and visual metaphors), we see an increasing interest in the context of research; and (3) the aesthetic and pedagogical roles of visual representations in communication, teaching, and popularization of science. These issues will be discussed in consideration of case studies from the natural sciences and the history of philosophy of science. Young people with a low standard of school education are the weakest group (ibid.). Other studies show that in Germany 92 per cent of girls and 83 per cent of boys between 10-19 use social networks. A reflective and responsible use of social media requires a wide range of competences from young people.
