They also understand the basic concepts of the numerical implementation of plasticity models and can assess which method is most suited to solve a given mechanical problem. Students are able to implement and apply a numerical scheme for the solution of elasto-plastic problems within the finite element method and have basic knowledge about the use of homogenization methods to describe plasticity in polycrystals. After successfully completing the module the students can remember the definitions of the classifications of mechanical behavior and to which materials the different types of behavior can be associated. They understand the phenomenology and mechanisms of elastic and plastic behavior of crystalline materials and know the different types of plasticity models in solid mechanics. Furthermore they understand the basic concepts and the mathematical formulation of continuum plasticity and crystal plasticity.
